Time Lapse Video of Earth from Space

“Video producer Michael König of Germany created this time-lapse sequence of photographs taken by Ron Garan, Satoshi Furukawa and the crew of expeditions 28 and 29 onboard the International Space Station from this past August to October.

Very little color adjustment or other digital editing was done to the images before they were stitched together, “since in my opinion, the original footage itself already has an almost surreal and aesthetical visual nature,” König explained at Vimeo, the site where he uploaded the video. Solar Powered Netbook Launched by Samsung

“Samsung has launched the world’s first 10.1 inch solar powered-netbook (NC215S) by melding eco-friendly …large front solar panel located on the cover of the netbook.

This panel captures energy from the sun and allows the user to recharge the battery automatically and without cost. Using about 2 hours of bright-mid-day sun, the user can charge the battery life by one hour. A fully charged battery allows up to 14 hours of usage, and the battery can be charged up to 1000 times over 3 years.

Light-weight materials were used( the netbook is only about 1.32kg-just under 3 pounds). Finally, in case you’re a little rough on your gadgets, don’t worry. The product is protected from everyday scraches by the application of Samsung’s Duracase.

Alibaba’s Linux Mobile OS & Smartphone: Aliyun

“Aliyun is Linux-based, so it will be able to handle both Android apps and web apps — a combination Alibaba is calling “cloud apps,” meant to provide a more “internet-like” experience on the handset.

“Introducing cloud apps to mobile devices not only brings a whole new user experience, but also greater ease for third-party mobile software developers who will be able to use Internet technology such as HTML5 and JavaScript to reduce the complexity in the app development process,” Wang Jian, president of Alibaba Cloud Computing, says in the release

Aliyun OS users won’t need to download or install apps on their mobile devices, as it will sync and store back-up data with Alibaba Cloud Computing’s remote servers; their information and software will also be accessible and updatable across all their mobile devices and computers.”….<More>

The Good:

“Game performance on the TouchPad seemed solid. I played a few games of that old classic Angry Birds and was impressed with the extremely smooth animation and high frame rates. Clearly the TouchPad hardware is capable of superior performance, when the right software is set to the task.

HP claims eight hours of video-playback life with Wi-Fi turned off.

The Bad

The TouchPad often seemed quite slow at launching new apps, leaving me staring at a pulsating, glowing icon. When a lot of apps were running, everything could get especially laggy. Occasionally, everything would freeze for a few seconds and then resume. The TouchPad also seemed to get confused about its orientation regularly — every time I laid it down flat on a table, it wanted to flip into portrait mode. More than once I got in a situation that would have been comedic if it weren’t so frustrating: I’d be holding the TouchPad in landscape mode, but its interface would remain in portrait. When I turned the TouchPad back to portrait, it would rotate to landscape. A few times, the apps within the multitasking interface appeared rotated correctly, but the overall UI was rotated incorrectly. Suffice it to say, there are some bugs affecting performance and usability”….<More>

“Lytro, a start-up based in the Silicon Valley, hopes to revolutionize the camera industry by bringing “light field” cameras to the market this year. This type of photography captures the color, intensity and direction of individual light rays, allowing the user to refocus the picture even after it has been taken.
Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Lytro’s founder and chief executive, Ran Ng, likened the technology to a multitrack audio recording, in which each instrument is recorded separately and mixed later.Lytro also claims that its cameras work in low lighting without flash, and can produce 3D photos with a single lens”….<More>
