Sudan has some of the best solar, wind, and geothermal resources on the continent, and almost none of it is built. The reasons are the same ones that have derailed every Sudanese development plan since independence — and they are, in principle, solvable.

Sudan sits on some of the most intense sunlight on Earth. While the country's electricity grid lies in ruins, this may be the moment to skip the grid entirely and build something better — distributed, resilient, Sudanese-owned solar power.
